L'enfant endormi

In the northeast of contemporary Morocco, Zeinab, a young wife watches her husband leave the country to go underground the day after their wedding. He's trying to find a job somewhere in Europe. Zeinab is expecting a child and she doesn't know, when her husband will return. While waiting for him she lulls the foetus to sleep: an old tradition of her home. Time goes by and the husband does not come back. She lets her unborn child sleep in her body, hoping that one day the father will come home and she could then give birth to the child. What seems strange to our eyes is an old Maghrebian custom.
